Skagit Public Utility District commissioners unanimously approved Tuesday night to remove the interim tag from Bob Powell’s title as general manager.

Powell has served in the interim role since February.

“We could do a national search for a general manager and not do any better than Bob Powell,” Commission President Robbie Robertson said. “We know that Bob will do a great job for the utility and our ratepayers.”

As general manager, Powell will oversee day-to-day operations for the district, which provides water service to 65,000 residents in the cities of Burlington, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley and surrounding areas.

“My focus will be on the district’s core water business and ensuring that this utility continues to provide quality water service to our customer-owners,” Powell said.

Prior to taking this position, Powell worked 10 years as the managing principal for the Burlington office of HDR Engineering, Inc., an international architecture, engineering and consulting firm. This will be Powell’s second stint with Skagit PUD, where he worked from 1993 to 2001 as the operations manager.
