Skagit PUD has received questions about whether floodwaters could have contaminated our drinking water system. We want to assure customers that your water remains safe to drink.
How our system stayed safe:
Our water distribution system operates under continuous positive pressure. This means water is constantly flowing outward from the pipes, preventing anything from entering the system — even when pipes are surrounded by floodwater. Throughout the flood event, we maintained system pressure and experienced no main breaks or loss of system integrity.
Water quality concerns arise when distribution systems lose pressure, experience main breaks, or sustain damage that creates entry points for contamination. None of these conditions occurred in our system during the flood.
Our water treatment plant operated continuously throughout the event, and our distribution crews monitored pressure and water quality around the clock. We continue to conduct regular water quality testing that meets or exceeds all state and federal standards.
There is no boil water advisory in effect. Your water is safe to drink.
