Open House Residential Efficiency Program

Starts Wednesday, February 22 at 9:05 AM

Ends Thursday, February 23 at 1:05 AM

On February 22, from 2:30 to 5:00 pm, Skagit County’s Sustainability Office will host an open house to kickoff the Skagit County Community Energy Challenge (“SCEC”), a pilot program to encourage and facilitate residential energy efficiency.

Skagit County’s program, modeled on the successful Whatcom Community Energy Challenge, helps homeowners achieve energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and creation of wildlife habitat. The program begins with a home energy assessment and report to help homeowners address comfort issues and reveal opportunities to lower home bills through insulation, air sealing, and other proven measures.

The assessment, normally valued at $500-600, only costs the homeowner $95 with the remainder funded by Skagit County through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to fund energy efficiency, renewable energy, and waste reduction initiatives. This is the only cost for the program.

The SCEC provides information and support to help homeowners take the next steps to make the recommended improvements to their home (including rebate and incentive programs), and a recognition process to acknowledge homeowners that take actions to make their homes more sustainable.

The SCEC is made possible only by the cooperation of the following partners:

• Cascade Natural Gas

• City of Anacortes

• Housing Authority of Skagit County

• Opportunity Council

• Puget Sound Energy

• Skagit County

• Skagit County Community Action

• Skagit County Master Composter/Recyclers

• Skagit County Master Gardeners

• Skagit Public Utility District

• Sustainable Connections

• Waste Management

The open house will be held in the lobby of the Skagit County Commissioners Administrative Building at 1800 Continental Place in Mount Vernon. Program sign-up will be offered at the event. Interested residents can also email or call (360) 419-7607.
