Since it was first celebrated in 1970, Earth Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and renew efforts for environmental responsibility and energy conservation.

The PUD is one of nine local jurisdictions participating in a three-year shared Resource Conservation Management (RCM) Program through the Skagit Council of Governments (SCOG) to save money and become more sustainable in the use of energy for daily operations of our facilities.

The PUD reduced its gross energy use for facility operations, excluding the treatment plant, by 9.86 percent for the two-year period January 2009 through December 2010.

In recognition of Earth Day, April 22, 2011, Skagit PUD's commissioners have challenged employees to be good energy stewards by further reducing the use of energy utilities at facilities.
