Registration Open for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

If an earthquake or other major disaster struck your neighborhood, would you be willing to help rescue people and provide basic first aid until police, fire and EMS personnel arrive?

If so, then join the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as; Fire Safety, Light Search and Rescue, Team Organization and Disaster Medical Operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Skagit PUD is excited that CERT will be offered at our facility (1415 Freeway Drive, Mount Vernon) this fall.

This free training course is eight sessions and will cover a variety of planning, prevention and manipulative skills necessary to survive a disaster while helping others.

To receive a Certificate of Completion and an Emergency Worker Card, a participant is required to:

  • Attend all sessions,
  • Complete two online FEMA courses, IS-100 & IS-700
  • Attain a Basic First Aid Card, and 
  • Pass a background check.

Class Dates: Six Mondays, September 18 thru October 23 and all day Saturday, October 28

Time: Evenings 6:30 p.m. til 9:30 p.m., and one Saturday 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
